Just a little about Linda

Linda’s parents moved to New Bern during the Depression in the 1930’s. They graduated from Auburn University in Alabama and were excited to move to a tiny coastal town in NC to teach and to raise their family. Their little family grew. And grew. And grew. Linda, the “knee baby”, was number 8 of 9 children. The family settled in the small community of Jasper so they could live near the wonderful old school where Linda’s dad was to teach for over 30 years.

New Bern 's small town charm captivates people. It did for Linda as a child and it does now! Linda’s early memories are of shopping downtown on Middle Street for white patent leather shoes and Easter clothes (complete with a bonnet and white gloves in those days!), watching the Christmas parade from the curb on Broad Street, riding on the back of tobacco trucks piled high with green tobacco still warm from the sunny fields of Asbury and Spring Garden, and dancing on Saturday nights at the Shrine Club on Racetrack Road (now the end of Glenburnie).

After graduating from Jasper High School (just a few miles outside of town) and East Carolina University in Greenville, Linda began her teaching career, teaching in both Raleigh and then in Elizabeth City. Years later, Linda and her husband Gene Broman decided that New Bern still held that small town charm and also many opportunities. So, it was back home for Linda!

Linda and Gene have five children and their favorite times are family times. Family certainly ties in with one of Linda’s favorite pastimes and hobbies, genealogy and family history. She has two genealogy websites and has been doing family and genealogy research for about 20 years.

Another pastime, renovating old properties, led Linda to a second career and passion: real estate! She is appreciative of the rich history and unlimited potential of New Bern and brings a genuine, caring approach when working with her clients. "I love this area" she says,"and I also really enjoy introducing people from out of town to our little part of the world. This is a special place here and I love it when new people feel that, too."
